Investment wax casting (also referred to as lost wax casting) is a practice that dates back thousands of years. It’s a testament to human ingenuity in developing such a valuable tool to create highly functional, complex and beautiful objects. Wax casting continues to expand as methodology becomes more refined, and substantial economic growth is being predicted for the remainder of the decade.
Some of the key industries that are driving current demand include automotive, aerospace, medical, defense and energy although 3D printing has become a notable competitor where suitable.
In recognition and support this process, Slide has developed two new products specifically designed for investment wax casting. Slide’s Non-Silicone Wax Pattern 3% Mold Release (#60882) eliminates pattern washing before primary coating. And our Non-Silicone Wax Pattern 5% Mold Release (#60883) leaves a superior surface finish and less build-up on patterns and molds. Both formulations are water soluble yet, will not carbonize or ash at high temperatures (up to 450°F/232°C).
This revered manufacturing technique also lends itself well to some of Slide’s previously existing mold cleaners and rust preventives that are now quite popular with many casters.
As with all of Slide’s offerings, our experts are available to answer questions, provide free consultation and samples. Or contact wax casting guru Brian Bullard directly.
